QUESTION
If I have to make an appearance at a deposition or trial, how should I dress?

ANSWER
At a deposition, your normal work attire or casual wear would be sufficient.  However, keep in mind that you are presenting yourself to the opposing attorney for the first time.  It is important to make a good impression in reference to your demeanor and your personal appearance.  It is not a good idea to wear sports clothing (i.e., jogging pants, shorts, etc.).  It is important to make a neat appearance, and to project yourself as a individual concerned about the lawsuit.

A trial is a much more formal proceeding and all of our trials are in front of juries.  Personal appearance and demeanor is extremely important in that context.  Again, it is important to appear neat and well groomed. "Business casual" (both men and women) would be best.  Any attire which you would feel appropriate to wear to any type of special function would also be sufficient.  It is not necessary to wear a suit and tie for the men, but it is important to make a good personal appearance.
